The Drake Hotel

Family Day Weekend in Toronto.

First off, let me say that finding a last-minute brunch reservation in the city is close to impossible. However, we managed to pull it off.

Being a young (& lazy) adult from west-end Toronto, it’s sometimes (always) a mission to make it downtown in time for Sunday brunch. Between the black hole in the back of my closet to navigating the treacherous (and always delayed) public transit, it’s always a miracle that we don’t lose our reservations.

After what seemed like an impossible search to find an available brunch restaurant, my high school friend, Catherine Mackinnon and I decided to taste the Instagram-famous brunch menu at The Drake Hotel on Queen Street West. I can officially say that the food was even better than how it looked – for the most part.

I started off by ordering a Mimosa (the decision was made 50% for the taste and 50% for the pre-planned Instagram caption; what do you mean mimosas aren’t apart of my juice cleanse?!). Delicious as always.

Next, we ordered our meals. I ordered an açai bowl (avocado, banana, coconut milk, pistachio, goji berries, chia seeds and cacao nibs) and a smoked salmon bagel (whole wheat, cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onions, capers, and lemon).

The smoked salmon bagel was delicious. If you are a fan of fish in the morning (or at any time of the day), I would definitely recommend the bagel. Even the man sitting at the table next to us asked for a bite! However, the açai bowl was not worth the $15. To be honest, it tasted like chunky chocolate pudding – I’d pass on that. But the plating presentation of both meals was Instagram-ready.

Conclusion: Dress Queen Street West chique, make sure your iPhone is charged for #foodie pictures and order the smoked salmon bagel. You won’t regret it.
